Synger dig deep to claw back Ravens

Templeogue Synge Street produced a stirring second-half comeback before eventually overcoming a battling Fingal Ravens by 3-13 to 1-16 after extra-time to claim the Dublin Minor ‘B’ Football Championship title at Parnell Park last Wednesday.
Synger looked dead and buried as they trailed by four points entering injury-time but a late penalty from Scott McConnell followed by a superb ‘45’ from goalkeeper Max Fitzgerald left matters deadlocked at 1-12 to 2-9 by full-time.
The winners looked far fresher in extra-time as injuries took their toll on a battling Ravens outfit and Diarmuid Greene pounced for a vital goal to help secure his team’s victory.
“It was a great performance from the lads and there was no panic from them even though we were trailing by eight points,” said Templeogue mentor Larry McCormack.
In what was an excellent team display, the likes of McConnell, Conor Curran, Sean Cooney, Sean McCormack and Fintan Dignam played key roles in getting their team over the line.
For Ravens, it proved a tough defeat to take given their excellence in the first-half with Sean Kinsella shining from centre-forward in addition to the scoring contributions of Josh Flanagan, Ben Duffy, Daniel Cibotar, Jack Hannon and Dylan Kettle.
“We are so proud of the lads and we couldn’t have asked for any more. We were missing a few starters but still played extremely well on the night,” said Ravens mentor Joe McBrearty.
